3 stars: The Princess and the PoundcakeShauna has a long-held crush on her friend Alan, but is convinced her weight makes her unlovable.
Best bits: A good example of how self-image tints all our perceptions of what others are thinking and feeling about us. Shauna is absolutely convinced she is hard to love because of her weight and her fanciful imagination, so much that she is the only one who doesn't see that Alan loves her. Theme of not surrendering to a negative self-image, OR seeking to be fit for the sake of fitting an image we think will please others. Instead, listen to the opinions of godly friends and family, and be healthy to feel better for yourself and to honor God with your body. All about the attitude.
Issues: More large typos (like missing words, incorrect apostrophes). I feel this one still needs more editing than the previous books. Some repetition and lack of polish.
4 stars: A Piece of Humble Pie
Shallow, fashion-obsessed Kayla rejects Jordan's proposal, then, several years later, her perspectives and goals change.
Best bits: I loved the transformation from the rather shallow, very image-focused Kayla in the prologue to the older, wiser, and more casual Kayla in the rest of the book. I could also clearly picture geek-in-love Jordan, and his older, wiser self that still held remnants of insecurity over past rejections.
Issues: Some typos, similar to others in the series. Less of a strong, obvious theme in this one. The theme of humbling ourselves and being vulnerable before God and others comes into play in just the last few chapters.
4 stars: The Gingerbread Man
Dena is surprised into caring for 4-year-old Reef while his uncle Mark is at work; he soon proposes a marriage of convenience to provide a mother for Reef.
Best bits: Dena and Mark both have relatable personalities and pasts, which make their misunderstandings and issues logical. And Reef is adorable! Not a super obvious theme, but something along the lines of waiting on God's timing, and jumping when God leads you to jump. Also, loving people unconditionally and supporting them even when that means letting them heal in their own time, in their own way.
Issues: Again, a large handful of typos. One spot where thought-italics ended too soon.

Some of the best written short stories I have ever read. Not everyone can weave such a good story line with a shorter format. Loved each one and each character was so unique. Look forward to more from Fish.
Seamlessly woven into each novella is the Grace of our Heavenly Father. I love that! The author is very creative in each of the books and I love the short stories that allow you to be drawn in but don't take your entire day to read. This is one of my favorite authors and I can't wait to read more.
I love these sweet Christian short stories. They are the perfect when you are short on time and want something entertaining and uplifting. I will add this author to my favorites list.
What a wonderful continuation of the Sweetkin family story. I love how faith is the most important of their lives and it guides them through their days.
The two novellas in A PIECE OF HUMBLE PIE were better developed than the three in COFFEE AND A BEAGLE. They also had fewer errors. I enjoyed them, found, them interesting, and read them quickly.
